Deputies catch Beaulaville copper wire thief in abandoned home’s attic

KENANSVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Deputies say they caught a suspected copper wire thief in the act.

It happened Saturday at an abandoned home on George Sumner Road near Beaulaville.

Deputies responding to a service call say they found 36-year-old Patrick Lee Jones in the home’s attic. He was in possession of a set of bolt cutters, wire cutters, and screwdrivers. He told deputies that detained him that he was in the house to steal the copper wire but they came into the house before he had the opportunity to remove any wire.

Jones was charged with Felony Breaking and Entering, Felony Possession of Burglary Tools and Misdemeanor Damage to Personal Property. He was placed under a $10,000 bond at the Duplin County Magistrate’s Office. He has a first appearance court date on January 8, 2016.
