Chocowinity town commissioner scheduled to appear in court

CHOCOWINITY, N.C. (WNCT)- A Chocowinity town commissioner is facing strangulation charges.

The Beaufort County Sheriff’s office says John Jenkins Jr. was arrested on January 1, 2016. Jenkins was booked at the Beaufort County Detention Center for charges stemming from Pitt County.

Jail records show Jenkins has been released from jail.

Court records show he is scheduled to appear in court in Pitt County Tuesday morning.

According to the Town of Chocowinity website, commissioners are scheduled to meet for the first town meeting of 2016 tonight at 7p.m.
