GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – State Highway Patrol troopers will be out in force Thursday night to cut down on those who decide to drink and drive. Multiple check points are scheduled across the East.
The check points are scheduled for different times and locations, but will continue into the early morning hours on New Years.
With many New Years parties scheduled across the East, a lot of people will consume too much alcohol to drive. In Greenville, one of the largest parties is taking place at the Hilton.
But even if you don’t see a checkpoint, troopers will also be out doing saturation patrols along roadways that have had a lot of accidents in the past.
“If we can get reductions in DWI arrest, that’s our main goal to keep someone off the roads,” said Sgt. Gary Weaver. “The only think I can say about that is if you go out and party, and you go out and have something to drink, please have a designated driver.”
Sgt. Weaver said holidays like New Years and Halloween tend to have a higher number of DUI arrests.
