Greenville bus system to undergo route changes

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – The Greenville Area Transit (GREAT) bus system will have several route changes starting January 5, 2016.

Among the changes, passengers will now board the bus on the north side of W. 5th Street instead of the south side of W. 5th Street, and buses will serve both sides of E. 10th Street.

“Preventing [passengers] from possibly being in a hit and run or collision,” City transportation manager Lamont Jackson said. “[These changes] make routes a little more efficient and to serve different passengers throughout the community.”

Some of Greenville’s northern neighborhoods will now have buses come every hour instead of once every two hours.

Dewitt Casey thinks the changes will be good.

“Different routes mean different places to see,” Casey said. “I think it’s cool”

Jackson said buses will be free to ride on January 5, 2016 so passengers can navigate the changes.
