GOLDSBORO, N.C. (WNCT)- A Dudley man faces charges after an altercation with police following a DWI traffic stop.
In the early hours of Christmas Day, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office DWI Task Force conducted a traffic stop on U.S. 117 South. During the stop, it was found that the driver, Carlos Wright, was impaired.
As Wright was being arrested, he fled on foot and a short pursuit ensued. DWI Task Force officers, C patrol shift and the Goldsboro Police Department K9 unit conducted a search of the area.
A short time later, Wright was located and detained by a security guard while breaking into and attempting to steal a van at a salvage yard on U.S. Highway 117 South.
During the investigation, it was found and confirmed that the vehicle Wright was operating had been stolen in Texas.
Wright is facing a list of charges including: possession of a stolen motor vehicle, breaking or entering a motor vehicle, attempted larceny of a motor vehicle, driving while impaired, resist obstruct delay a law enforcement officer, driving while license revoked and speeding.
Wright’s bond was set at $53,500.
