Kinston’s Mary’s Kitchen serving meals to needy on Christmas

KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) – Kinston’s Mary’s Kitchen prepares to serve food for dozens of people in need on Christmas Day.

Volunteer Nick Voermans said the kitchen will be open during normal hours from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Friday.

They’ll serve ham, at least two side dishes and desserts like cakes and cookies.

Anyone is welcome to attend.

“For me, it’s a blast,” Voermans said. “I enjoy doing this because not only am I helping others, but I’m able to give them a nice meal that may be their only meal of the day.”

He added they already have enough volunteers, but people can still donate food and volunteer in the future.

They ask people to donate in the morning and prefer canned goods.

To volunteer, call LaTonya Smith at 252-523-6146. Directions can be found here.
