GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — Santa may be the MVP of Christmas, but in this Panther fan’s house, Cam Newton is number one.
“I started collecting in 95’ when they started and it’s just been a hobby of mine,” says Chip Laughinghouse. “It’s like my golf game. I collect Panther’s memorabilia and a lot of it is Christmas.”
From ornaments and attire, to season tickets and stockings hung by the chimney with care. Laughinghouse says there’s no other way he wants to celebrate the holiday.
“It was a natural tie in,” he says. “My love for the Panthers and my love for Christmas and it just went together.”
And this year is extra special.
“I don’t think anybody would have thought it would go the way it has so far,” says Laughinghouse.
The franchise’s dedication to the community is another reason why Laughinghouse cheers for the team. As an employee of the nonprofit, he says Carolina always has a giving spirit.
“They have always stepped up to the plate when I’ve asked for something,” he says. “Something for an auction or to help a cause, I’ve never been turned down.”
So, this Christmas, he plans to display all of his Panther paraphernalia proudly.
“I get excited every Sunday,” Laughinghouse. “I get nervous every Sunday. It’s just been one of those years you’ll always remember.”
The best gift for any Panther’s fan? Playoff tickets in the stocking, an undefeated season under the tree, and a trip to the Super Bowl in the New Year.
