New Greenville Economic Development Manager hopes to hit the ground running

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Happening Monday, Greenville takes another step towards improving the economy, bringing on a new economic development manager.

Roger Johnson comes to us from Wilmington. City leaders here say Johnson’s experience there in developing small business and industry falls right in line with Greenville’s goals.

Johnson comes at a time of huge development for the city, dealing with a lot of money for various projects, including improving our roads and developing West Greenville.

City Manager Barbara Lipscomb says there’s a lot of work to be done.

“We need to keep working on getting better jobs here in the city. We do have a lot of high end, but we also a lot of very low end. And we want to have jobs that help retain a number of the students here,” Lipscomb said.

Johnson says he wants to focus on job growth, growing the tax base, and helping small businesses succeed.
