Humpback whale stranded on Cape Hatteras National Seashore

CAPE HATTERAS, N.C. (WNCT) – A humpback whale stranded on the beach at Cape Hatteras National Seashore Monday.

In a Facebook post, the Cape Hatteras National Seashore reported the 33-food-long male juvenile stranded on the beach just south of ramp 55.

The organization said resource management staff was sent to the site to complete a necropsy, along with NOAA Marine Mammal Stranding Network members and NC Coastal Resources Commission staff.

The necropsy will help determine the cause of the death, and the whale will be buried at the site.
