Pitt County school to launch first Horizons program

GREENVILLE, NC (WNCT)- The Oakwood School in Pitt County will soon launch the first Horizons program in North Carolina.

The Oakwood School will serve Pitt County public school students in grades K-8 from low-income families. The program will provide swimming and academic and arts enrichment to improve educational outcomes and narrow the achievement gap.

The program will begin with 15 kindergarten students starting summer 2016 and add a new kindergarten class each year.

Head of The Oakwood School, Rob Peterson, said, “We are thrilled and proud that Horizons at The Oakwood School will enable dozens of children to learn and lead with the integrity, courage, confidence and conviction that are hallmarks of an Oakwood education. Thisprogram aligns perfectly with Oakwood’s mission to provide exceptional educational opportunities and make a difference.”
