Dozens honor veterans in New Bern Saturday afternoon

NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) – Dozens of people gathered at the National Cemetery in New Bern Saturday afternoon to remember veterans.

Community members, boy scouts and the American Legion Post 539 laid over 500 wreaths on veterans graves. The national campaign is called “Wreaths Across America.” The goal is to teach, honor and remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

“This is a great time of the year to come out and visit the gravesites and honor our veterans with a wreath on their gravesite,” Ray Derr said.

Derr says he hopes more people sponsor a wreath next year. His goal is to fill all 7,200 grave sites at the national cemetery in New Bern. For more information, click here.
