Adoptions still available after “12 Strays of Christmas”

GREENVILLE, NC (WNCT) – ‘Tis the season for holiday shopping, and animal adoption.

The Humane Society of Eastern Carolina is held their annual “12 Strays of Christmas” event.

They partnered with the Pitt County Animal Shelter, Spay Today, and the Pet Food Pantry of Eastern Carolina for the big day of adoption.

“So we adopt out 12 dogs, 12 cats, we feature them throughout the week, we actaully started December 1st, and we featured a different animal each day,” said Bethann Wilkie, Exec. Director, Humane Society Eastern Carolina.

Six dogs and six cats come from the Humane Society and the other six dogs and six cats come from the Pitt County Animal Shelter. It’s a group effort to promote adopting.

“The goal is to get all 12 dogs and the 12 cats out that day. Last year we were successful in getting all but one dog adopted.”

This year, 7 cats and 9 dogs were adopted at the event.

“We had 16 animals adopted this weekend, and we have 8 left,” said shelter director, Liz Miesnik. “So we’re hoping to find forever homes for them.”
