SBI investigating inmate’s hanging death at the Carteret Co. Jail

BEAUFORT, N.C. (WNCT) – The State Bureau of Investigations in looking into the hanging death of an inmate at the Carteret County Jail.

The SBI says the incident happened on Dec. 1st.

Investigators say, Amanda Yvonne Hogan, was found by deputies during rounds of the facility.

Hogan was taken to the hospital, but passed away over the weekend. The SBI says an autopsy was completed on Monday.

Following Hogan’s death, the Carteret County Sheriff’s Office contacted the SBI, which is standard procedure after an inmate dies while in custody.

Once the state completes its investigation, a report will be sent to the district attorney for review, which is also standard procedure.
