Jacksonville Police takes children shopping for Christmas

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT)- Jacksonville Police Department is partnering with Target through their heroes and helpers program to give some kids in Jacksonville a Christmas they’ll always remember.

After receiving a $1,400 grant, they were able to give 10 kids from ages 5 to 17 the opportunity to “shop with a cop.”

Each kid was given the opportunity to pick out Christmas presents for themselves and their families.

They were chosen through the Onslow Christmas Cheer Program. Sargent Dale Silance says, ” you want every child to have the best christmas they can, obviously it’s not possible every year but im sure this one time will stick with them for a long time.”

At Thursday night’s event some of the teens asked Target supervisors about future employment opportunities.

This is the second year the Jacksonville Police Department has been able to spread Christmas cheer while giving back to the community.
