ECU alumni chapter requests meeting with Chancellor over McNeill’s firing

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – As East Carolina University’s search for a new head football coach continues, some alumni are asking for a meeting over the way it has been handled.

The East Carolina University Black Alumni Chapter issued a statement on Thursday saying it was going on record about the firing of Ruffin McNeill.

Athletic Director Jeff Compher made the announcement on the previous Friday.

The chapter indicated it represented over 10,000 alumni. It said the decision was in part “conducted in an unartful, irresponsible and disrespectful manner”.

The group is asking for a meeting with Chancellor Steve Ballard to discuss concerns ranging from lost revenue and recruitment ability.

ECU told WNCT there are no planned news conferences at this time.
