Onslow Co. Sheriff’s Office investigating missing funds from Southwest Rec League

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office is investigating missing funds that may affect your children.

Children involved with the Southwest Recreation League called off opening games this past Saturday
.
The Southwest Gators basketball team was expected to play this weekend but the games were postponed because of a lack of money.

League officials say the games were called off due to a change in leadership.

But now, a criminal investigation of an alleged act of embezzlement is underway.

“See what the facts are, was the money missing, was a crime committed, or were there other circumstances,” said Sheriff Hans Miller.

The leagues president’s status is also unclear.

Because the case involves a paper trail, an arrest likely would not be immediate.
