FARMVILLE, N.C. (WNCT)- Crews from Farmville Fire Department return to the Natural Blend Plant to put out an ongoing silo fire.
Crews on scene tell WNCT they were sent back out Monday when conditions started deteriorating. Smoke started to increase. They also tell us the heat is hotter on the outside, it’s more charred, and paint is starting to chip off the metal. They’ll now be monitoring the silo 24/7 until it’s under control.
“We’re still in talks with people that built the silo to find out when we can actually put water in it or if we’re never going to be able to put water in it, and just have to let it burn. Right now it’s still a waiting game,” said Tommy Brady with the Farmville Fire Department.
The Pitt County plant is located on alternate 264. The company noticed the smoke early on November 27th and called for help.
Within the first 48 hours, fire crews used more than 2 million gallons of water.
We have a crew on scene, and will provide more details as they come in.
