Bertie H.S. receives funds for new cadet program

WINDSOR, N.C. (WNCT)- Local businesses in Bertie County are stepping up to support Bertie County Schools’ new public safety cadet program.

Sponsors presented donations to Bertie High School Wednesday morning. The funds will help pay for books, uniforms, and other operating expenses.

The cadet program gives Junior and Senior students a chance to earn college credit towards a Criminal Justice degree. It also puts them on the fast track towards a career as a correctional officer for North Carolina Department of Public Safety.

Governor Pat McCrory said the program is a first of its kind in the state.
