GPA threshold may affect ECU student’s academic standing

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – With finals just around the corner, ECU students need to keep in mind the new academic policies.

The change started back in August and students must maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher. If not, the student will be put on academic warning. Previously, the student could have a 1.8 GPA before being placed on academic difficulty..

“A 2.0 GPA for some it seems like a big jump but it really is pushing students to the point of what it’s going to take to graduate and ultimately what it takes to be a good employee down the road,” Asby said.

Dr. Asby says the new scale puts all the students on the same page. He says once students go below three semesters under a 2.0 GPA they will be suspended for a semester.
