New Bern home heavily damaged after fire

NEW BERN, NC (WNCT)- One woman is uninjured after a house fire Friday night, but authorities say the home just north of Bridgeton is “heavily damaged.”

Both the Little Swift Creek Fire department and the Tri Community Fire Department responded to the fire at 1001 Antioch Road around 7:20 p.m. Friday.

Craven County Assistant Fire Marshal, Ira Whitford, told WNCT that when they arrived on scene, the house was already heavily involved. Whitford says it took roughly 30 minutes to put out the fire, but they did not clear the scene until 11:30 p.m. that night.

Dorothy Tyndall was the only person living in the home. She tried to put the fire out with a fire extinguisher, but it became too strong. She was not injured in the incident. Red Cross is assisting Tyndall with the loss.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
