ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — McKibbon Hotel Group officials have released more details about a planned hotel in downtown Asheville.

The Asheville Citizen-Times reports (http://avlne.ws/1T1viRj) in a statement Thursday, McKibbon officials said they expect to hire up to 100 full-time employees with starting wages that “will meet or exceed the Asheville living wage.”

The new building will replace the current BB&T Bank building and will house the yet-to-be-named hotel at One West Tower at Pack Square. The building will include 133 hotel rooms and 41 condominiums.

Officials also say that “the retail space included in the project will not be leased to national chains in order to align with downtown Asheville’s commitment to local businesses.”

Asheville’s Planning and Zoning Commission approved the hotel plans in a vote Tuesday.

Construction is scheduled to begin next year.
