GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Farmers in the east say their having difficulties harvesting their crops. The recent rain impacted many crops such as beans, cotton and sweet potatoes. Extension Agent, Anna Beth Stewart says the farmer’s equipment is getting stuck and it’s so heavy that it ruts up the fields. She says the ruts are causing major planting issues.
“Lower yields are causing a lower economic impact. The farmers are losing money. The longer the beans stay in the field, the worse quality they are,” explained Stewart.
Stewart says farmers have to dig up the ruined crops and have to throw them away.
