Wilson Co. road reopens to traffic after overnight train derailment

WILSON, N.C. (WNCT) – A road in Wilson County has reopened after an overnight train derailment.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation says NC 581 was closed in both directions near US 301. That’s in the Lucama area, just southwest of Wilson.

A CSX official tells 9 On Your Side one of the cars on a train carrying coal came off the tracks. Crews worked throughout the morning to clean up the coal spilled in the area.
