Martin County holds open house for new water treatment plant

WILLIAMSON, N.C. (WNCT)- The Martin County Regional Water and Sewer Authority officially opens its new water treatment plant.

Today, the plant will host an open house and tour of the facility. The open house comes amid controversy after folks in Martin County were told their water rate would increase more than expected.

Effective July 1, the water rate increased from $36 to $53 per month. It will jump $8.50 for every additional 1,000 gallons. This summer, 9 On Your Side talked to the county manager, who says the increase was necessary to pay for operating costs and the new water treatment plant.

The open house ceremony starts at 10 a.m. this morning. Tours of the new plant start at 10:30 a.m.
