BEAUFORT, N.C. – A former Carteret County Sheriff’s deputy is accused of taking Indecent Liberties with a Child.
District Attorney Scott Thomas announced Tuesday the 43-year-old Jason Evans Wilson has been charged with one felony count of Indecent Liberties with a Child. He made his first court appearance in Carteret County District Court Tuesday morning.
Wilson’s bond is set at $ 100,000 secured, with conditions that he have no contact with the victim or the victim’s family. His next court date is December 4. The Public Defender was assigned as counsel.
District Attorney Scott Thomas said, “I was contacted by Sheriff Asa Buck on September 30, 2015, about a report his department had just received regarding then-Deputy Sheriff Wilson. An allegation was made that Wilson had engaged in sexual activity with a female non-family member, who was less than 16 years of age. Sheriff Buck and I immediately requested an investigation by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI). The SBI recently concluded its investigation of this allegation.
Based upon the investigative findings, Mr. Wilson was charged on Monday, November 9, 2015, with one felony count of Indecent Liberties with a Child. This alleged conduct occurred while Mr. Wilson was off duty, and was in no way related to his former job as a Deputy Sheriff. Upon notice of the allegation, Deputy Wilson was suspended pending the investigation. During the course of the investigation, Mr. Wilson resigned his position with the Sheriff’s Office.”
