Police investigating online rumor in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – The Jacksonville Police Department is advising residents of a social media rumor that is circulating. The claims originated on Facebook and claim attempted car jacking and kidnappings in the Western Boulevard commercial corridor of the city.

The department say it has not received any reports at this time.

“The department maintains an official Face Book page and we ask that the public use this page as a source of verified information” said Chief Mike Yaniero, Jacksonville Director of Public Safety. “We ask anyone with suspicious encounters to contact 911 immediately.”

If anyone has information on these incidents, you’re asked to call the Jacksonville Police Department at 910.455.4000.
