ECU professor enters Alford plea

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – A professor at ECU will be out of a job next month after entering an Alford plea involving misappropriation of funds from the university.

David Weismiller had faced five felony charges related to his time as associate provost. But prosecutors exchanged those after he entered the Alford Plea Wednesday to two counts of misdemeanor common law forgery.

An Alford plea is treated like a guilty plea, but the person is not admitting guilt.

He’ll be on probation for two years and must pay ECU over $43,000 in restitution and resign his position of professor of family medicine at the end of this year.
