New Info: Suspect identified in Roanoke Rapids homicide investigation

ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. (WNCT) – Police have identified a suspect in a homicide investigation in Roanoke Rapids.

The Roanoke Rapids Police Department says it happened on Oct. 23rdat 12:15a.m.

Police say officers were originally called out to car accident at the corner of 4th and Madison Streets. Police say when they responded to the call officers found 27-year-old Rynell Gaines unresponsive inside the car. Police say during the course of the investigation EMS and officers discovered Gaines had been shot. He died at the scene.

Police obtained an arrest warrant for 24-year-old  James Coleman III on Nov 4th. Coleman faces a felony charge of murder.

Police say Coleman should be considered armed and dangerous.

The investigation is still on going at this time.
