CAPE HATTERAS, N.C. – The Coast Guard says it rescued three people Wednesday from a sinking vessel, just east of Cape Hatteras.
Sector North Carolina watchstanders got the call at 7 a.m. that the 60-foot motor vessel Teal was taking on water with three people aboard. It happened about three miles east of Cape Hatteras.
The agency says a 47-foot Motor Lifeboat (MLB) crew launched from Station Oregon Inlet and arrived with Coast Guard Cutter Nantucket on scene just before 8. The crews of the two vessels deployed two dewatering pumps and assisted in dewatering the Teal.
After they found the dewatering pumps weren’t keeping up with the rate of flooding, the pumps were removed from the Teal. A three boaters were brought aboard the Nantucket.
The Nantucket crew took the survivors to Morehead City.
