Car hits power pole, snarls traffic on Stantonsburg Rd. in Greenville

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – A car accident stopped traffic on Stantonsburg Road and Farm Drive early Wednesday evening.

It happened around 5:30 p.m. Traffic was blocked in both directions for around an hour.

Witnesses said a car pulled out in front of another vehicle, clipping it, and sending it off the road and into a power pole. That pole split, leaving a live power line dangling overhead and trapping people inside. Emergency and utility crews worked to turn off power, and get those in the car to safely.

Power was cut off to the nearby businesses, including Bank of America and KFC.

Both the driver and passenger were talking to crews on the scene.
