GREENVILLE (WNCT) – East Carolina football coach Ruffin McNeill took time out of his weekly press conference on Monday to share his thoughts on Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer.
Word leaked on Sunday that Beamer would retire after 29 years at Virginia Tech. On Monday at a press conference in Blacksburg, Beamer made it official.
“The tough part about retiring is you are leaving the people that you love the most and mean the most to you,” said Beamer.” I wish we had had a few less injuries and some things had gone different this year and we could have gone out on a higher note but if we can win these last three and I know I am going to work like heck and I know the team will and the coaches will to win these last three and go to a bowl.”
McNeill shared his thoughts, hinting that he had a job for Beamer if the coach ever needed work.
“29 years at that place and he is really a special special coach but really a better person,” said McNeill. “We will miss Coach Beamer. Maybe he will come down and come around and see us more. I might hire him here and pay him out my pocket to come down and just hang around and stay at the house, take care of Samantha my dog and coach some ball with me.”
