Coast Guard medevacs man 18 miles off Cape Hatteras, NC

CAPE HATTERAS, N.C. (WNCT) – A 48-year-old man had to be medevaced by the Coast Guard Monday after suffering health complications southeast of Cape Hatteras.

Sector North Carolina watchstanders got a report from the Grandeur of the Sea cruise ship at 7:40 a.m. They relayed that a man aboard was suffering health complications.

Just over an hour later, a Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew launched from Air Station Elizabeth City, meeting the cruise ship approximately 18 miles southeast of Cape Hatteras at 10:15 a.m. and hoisted the man and a ship’s nurse.

They were flown to CarolinaEast Medical Center in New Bern, arriving at 12:20 p.m where EMS personnel were waiting. The man was last reported to be in stable condition.
