First on 9: Pitt Co. Sheriff identifies person killed in Greenville

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office says one person was found fatally shot Sunday morning.

Deputies were dispatched to 2196 Penny Hill Rd around 2 a.m. for a reported assist to EMS. Highway Patrol responded to what was called in as a traffic accident.

Troopers found the 31-year-old dead on Sunday off of Penny Hill Road.

The Medical Examiner arrived on scene and discovered the body of 31-year-old Jamel Demar Moore, who had a gunshot wound. Detectives say they do not think the wound was self-inflicted.

The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating the homicide. Right now they are trying to piece together the final moments of Moore’s life.

Detective Chad Suggs with the Pitt County Sheriff’s office says they do not know if Moore was targeted and are still interviewing people.

“We have leads that we’ve developed that we’re working on, we do not have a suspect identified that we’re releasing to the public, and we will continue to work those leads,” Suggs said.
