GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – The Hilton Hotel partnered with the City of Greenville and ECVC, Inc. to collect computers, TVs, phones and more to be recycled.
The collection event on Thursday took items that had cords or used batteries.
“One of our goals this year was to reduce our amount of waste we had going to the landfill by 25 percent,” said David Thigpen, Chief Facilities Manager for Hilton Hotel. “So we got involved in and as we began looking and seeing the impact that it has on the environment we wanted to do something that showed our commitment to the community.”
Those involved want to make sure the printers, DVD players, microwaves and other items get disposed of properly.
“There’s a lot of toxins and chemicals used in creating those electronics and if that material gets into the landfill and waste stream, then in the end it ends up in the water system and the earth and can pollute stuff,” said Thigpen.
If you did not make it out to Thursday’s event and still want to safely get rid of your old electronics, you can go to the ECVC facility at 803 Stanton Road in Greenville.
