WASHINGTON, N.C. (WNCT) – Beaufort County Community College is launching their campaign aimed at making the community healthier.
Get Beau-Fitt features a one mile trail, along with four exercise stations, on campus in an effort to get more people active. The initiative cost around $175,000, which was covered by grants from KB Reynolds and MDC.
Julia Crippen, BCCC’s grant writer, said they saw a need to get the community healthier and reduce obesity. She said since opening part of it last year, feedback has been good.
“Actually we have a counter that’s placed at one of the stations, so we know that the use has gone up steadily,” Crippen said. “When it used to be 10 people were using this trail at the very beginning, we’ve been getting numbers now of 98 to 100 a day.”
Fit bands to calculate activity were also given to some participating in the initiative. Beau Fitt is open daily from sunrise to sunset.
