House in Grifton deemed total loss after fire

GRIFTON, NC (WNCT)- A house in Grifton caught fire early Sunday morning destroying the home and displacing a large family.

The Hugo Volunteer Fire and Rescue team received a call at 7:55am.

The house located at 6744 Skeeter Pond Road in Grifton, which held over five family members.

Hugo Volunteer Fire and Rescue Chief, Johnny Craft, says when the first fire truck arrived, the house was seventy-five percent involved. The house quickly became one-hundred percent involved and is now a total loss.

Cheif Craft says the fire was difficult to contain due to the amount of content in the home.

One woman was transported to the hospital by Lenoir County paramedics for smoke or heart conditions.

Over 25 people from the Hugo Volunteer Fire and Rescue responded, along with members of the North Lenoir, Sand Hill, Hookerton, and Maury fire departments.
