Live-fire training at Bombing Targets in Pamlico Sound

MARINE CORPS AIR STATION CHERRY POINT, N.C. (WNCT) – The Marine Corps is issuing a warning for residents and boaters  this weekend.

Navy Special Boat Teams will conduct extensive live-fire training beginning Friday afternoon at Bombing Targets 9 and 11 in the Pamlico Sound.

Boaters should take extra care to stay clear of the prohibited areas during these operations.

The training will be conducted according to the following schedule:

On Friday, at 2-6 p.m. and 7-11 p.m., the SBT will conduct surface direct fire from naval craft at stationary targets on BT-11.

On Saturday, from noon until 8 p.m., the SBT will conduct surface direct fire from naval craft at stationary targets on both BT-9 and BT-11.

The fire on BT-9 will additionally include .50-caliber machine gun fire.
