Beaufort Co. school working to clean up after sick kids

PINETOWN, N.C. (WNCT) — Dozens of students were absent this week from Northeast Elementary School in Beaufort County after a viral illness made it’s rounds in a classroom. The school system says some of the students were ill and others were kept out of school by their parents as a precaution.

Beaufort County Schools spokesperson Sara Hodges says cleaning crews, along with the Environmental Health Department, is working to clean certain areas that may have been contaminated.

Thursday, 70 students were absent from school, another 94 left during classes. Friday, 195 students were out but not all of the absences are attributed to illness.

The principal is reminding parents if your child is sick or shows signs of illness, please keep them home.

At this time, the school has not released what illness the children who have been out are sick with. Stay with WNCT for more information as it becomes available.
