Norfolk officers injured in crash on Llewellyn Ave.

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Two Norfolk Police officers were injured in a crash on Llewellyn Ave. early Monday morning.

Medics immediately took one officer to the hospital after arriving on scene around 4:30 a.m. — while rescue crews worked for more than an hour to free a second officer from the overturned police car.

The identities of the two officers, both men, will not be released until family is notified. Authorities say both officers suffered serious injuries and currently are listed in stable condition.

An unidentified witness to the crash told a tan car sped past their vehicle with several police in pursuit. The witness said they believe the police car crashed after trying to swerve around another vehicle. The car went off the road, rolling several times.

Police reopened Llewellyn Avenue to traffic just before 9:30 a.m.

Authorities said the circumstances surrounding the crash are under investigation.
