GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – The funeral of a Greenville man fatally stabbed near a Walmart Neighborhood Market has been set.

According to Smith Funeral Service & Crematory the funeral for 22-year-old Steven Rouse is scheduled for Sunday Oct. 25th. The funeral is being held at the Greenville Church of God at 3p.m. Visitation is scheduled for Oct. 24th  from 6p.m. – 8p.m. at Smith Funeral Service & Crematory in Greenville.

Rouse died after he was stabbed Monday evening in the parking lot behind a Walmart Neighborhood Market.

Two men have been charged with an open count of murder.

Witnesses told police officers responding to the report of an altercation on Park West Drive that someone had been stabbed after the altercation carried over into the nearby parking lot. That’s when officers found 22-year-old Steven Joseph Rouse with multiple stab wounds to the upper torso. Rouse was taken to Vidant Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

Shortly thereafter, police say 21-year-old Michael O’Neal and 26-year-old Curtis Lamar Wade, showed up at the hospital. O’Neal was seeking treatment for minor injuries. After interviews with the two men, and witness reports at the scene, detectives connected O’Neal and Wade to the fatal stabbing. Witnesses told police they saw the two men get into an altercation with Rouse in the Park West Drive area, chasing Rouse through a field that connects Park West Drive and Walmart, where they caught up to Rouse and attacked him with a knife. It’s believed that the minor injuries O’Neal suffered happened at some point during the altercation. The cause of the altercation between the three men is still under investigation.

Wade and O’Neal were both charged with an open count of murder. They were booked in the Pitt County Detention Center without bonds. Their next court date is set for November 4th.

Police say the victim and suspects all lived on Park West Drive, but it’s unclear whether they knew each other prior to Monday night’s altercation.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
