NORTH TOPSAIL BEACH, N.C. (WNCT) – FEMA visited the town of North Topsail Beach for the second time in five days to perform a visual survey of damage to the beaches from recent storms.
The agency originally came to town last Thursday, but due to high tides they had to reschedule their beach inspection.
The town’s preliminary assessment found more than 15 million dollars of damage to the shoreline and dune system.
The town called on FEMA to ask for federal assistance in repairing the damages.
“They’re trying to determine what the damage is and they’re going to quantify that into a monetary cost for restoring the beach,” said Assistant Town Manager, Carin Faulkner.
Faulkner says she was not told any initial findings from the FEMA report Monday, but she does expect a finalized report by the end of the month.
