Pirates old and young come together for homecoming

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – It’s Homecoming week at ECU, with the big game against Tulsa Saturday. But in the meantime, there’s a lot to celebrate in Pirate Nation. As your Official Station of the Pirates, we’re bringing you everything you need to know for the big weekend.

The theme for this year’s Homecoming is Pirates Rewind, celebrating their history by traveling from the 1950’s to today.

It’s been a week packed with events, but it all kicks up a notch this weekend.

Freeboot Friday in Uptown Greenville Friday night featured a special pep rally with the band, cheerleaders, student skits, and head football coach Ruffin McNeill.

ECU alumni Ronnie Goodall said homecoming weekend is important for Pirate Nation.

“It’s just having to be a part of something that’s bigger than yourself, and the pirates are bigger than everybody,” Goodall said. “We’re all brothers when it comes to Pirate Nation.”

Also Friday night, ECU’s Alumni Association honors the 10 recipients of this year’s alumni awards.

Then Saturday morning, the parade heads down 5th Street starting at 9. The main event, the big game against Tulsa, kicks off at noon.

Don’t forget you can come join our WNCT tailgate outside gate 5. We’ll be out there starting at 10 and would love to see you.

With so many Pirates in town this weekend, there are many events and reunions going on. For more on those, head to ECU Alumni Association’s website.
