Kinston war monument relocated

KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) – The Vietnam and Korean monument in Kinston is now in a new location.

Visitors can now visit the site near Mother Earth Brewery right off of King Street.

A local veteran, Herman McLawhorn says it took over six years to raise the money to move it from the old location, Ram Neuse Park, on the other side of town. He says it’s an important part of Kinston.

“It memorializes the names on those slabs behind us because they didn’t get to come home,” explained Herman McLawhorn.

McLawhorn says the monument still needs cleaning and landscaping.
