NORTH TOPSAIL BEACH, N.C. (WNCT) – FEMA was in the town of North Topsail Beach performing a visual survey of damages from recent storms.
The town’s preliminary assessment found more than 15 million dollars worth of damages done to the shore line and dune systems.
Town officials say an entire parking lot was undermined and damages to homes and debris along the beaches remain an issue.
Town Manager Stuart Turille says the assessment FEMA conducts will determine how much money they will receive in relief funds.
“We need as much county, state and federal assistance to keep this island and this town in its natural state of beauty,” said Turille.
Because of the high tides, FEMA will revisit Monday to better assess the shoreline.
