HALIFAX, N.C. (WNCT) — An investigation into a Halifax County probation officer and Senator’s husband arrested last month continues, with new information suggesting additional victims surfaced.
The State Bureau of Investigation says Maud Edwin Elliott Ingram, 49, was charged in September with attempted second-degree rape, felony obstruction of justice and failing to make reports and discharge other duties.
Ingram is married to Erica Smith-Ingram. She represents District 3 which covers nine counties including Martin, Chowan, Tyrrell, and Washington.
Ingram was employed as a probation officer in Halifax County at the time of his arrest. He appeared in court and received a $50,000 bond. He has since been released.
The Department of Public Safety’s Keith Acree said, “While an internal investigation and the law enforcement investigation are proceeding, Officer Ingram is reassigned to administrative duties and is not supervising any probationers. ”
Ingram was scheduled to appear in court in late September, but his case was continued. Ingram’s next court appearance is scheduled for November 18.
