Craven Co. fatal fire under investigation

HAVELOCK, N.C. (WNCT) — The Craven County Sheriff’s Office and State Bureau of Investigation is investigating a Craven County fatal fire.

Craven County Emergency Management officials say a call came in about a fire at a home on 140 Thomas Bell Jay Rd. at 10:55 Friday morning. The Harlow Fire Department was the first crew to respond.

When crews arrived a mobile home was 80% involved in flames, the fire was fully contained in about 10-15 minutes. While extinguishing the fire, crews found an unidentified body.

Craven County Emergency Management says a 100-year-old woman lived in the home, but has not said if that woman is the person killed in the fire.

Havelock Fire and Rescue, Township Six, Cherry Point and Mill Creek also responded to the fire.
