Using smartphone resources to be prepared in emergency

App Wrap Wednesday is featured every Wednesday morning on WNCT Morning Edition

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – With the severe weather we’ve had over the past week, WNCT is dedicating this week’s App Wrap Wednesday to preparedness and utilizing your smart phone resources.

First Alert Weather App: Our First Alert weather team updates the app with the latest information throughout the day, so it’s always up to date.

Radar, current conditions and real-time forecasts are at your fingertips.

Unlike other weather apps, this brings you a customized forecast every time you open it.

It is free at the Apple App store and Google Play store.

ReadyNC App: It’s an app put out by the State Department of Public Safety.

It will help you prepare, step by step for everything from a minor traffic event to a severe weather emergency.

You can get traffic updates, phone numbers for all power companies to report outages, and information on evacuation orders.

It’s free for both iPhone and Android.

Emergency App: The American Red Cross has a great resource for families in this app.
It has everything you need to know about keeping your family and pets safe, all in one place.

With the push of a button you can send a message to all your loved ones to check and see if they’re safe during an emergency.

It also gives you information on what to do before, during and after.

As all emergency preparedness experts say, the most important thing you can do ahead of a severe event is to be ready. So, get to downloading and you’ll be ahead of whatever comes this way.
