DUDLEY, N.C. (WNCT)- Two people are facing charges in the murder of a Wayne County woman.
Deputies say 20-year-old Maria Garcia and 22-year-old Arnulfo Ascencio were taken into custody Tuesday.
On October 1st, Wayne County deputies responded to a shooting at 3479 Arrington Bridge Road in Dudley.
Once inside the resident, officials found one female, Georgina Fajardo, was shot in the head.
She was transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital where she later died. Five other people were also in the residence.
Investigators say Garcia and Ascencio attempted to break into the residence.
Once the suspects were unable to get in, deputies claim they began discharging a firearm into the home.
Garcia and Ascencio are facing charges for an open count of murder, discharging firearm into occupied dwelling, attempted first degree burglary, and assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill. Additional charges may be forthcoming.
Both are at the Wayne County Detention Center under no bond.
Wayne County Sheriff Larry Pierce is commending the community for their help on this case. “Because of citizens concerns, the detectives were able to bring closure to the family and quickly arrest those individual responsible for this homicide.”
