North Topsail Beach homeowners not in shoreline protection area given the go ahead to move and to protect their homes

NORTH TOPSAIL BEACH, N.C. (WNCT) – Homeowners in North Topsail Beach not in the shoreline protection area are allowed to move sand to protect their homes on their own.

The Assistant Town Manager, Carin Faulkner, said it’s beneficial to move the sand if a dune is completely gone. But said if it’s not needed, you’re asked to leave the sand due to changing the profile of the beach.

One condo resort plans on meeting this week to plan their own emergency push.

“We definitely need a push to help build these dunes back up,” said Andy Allen of Villa Capriani. “As you can tell it’s getting a little bit thinner and it won’t take much for it to breach it.”

Town officials are looking at getting emergency funds to help aid other property managers and homeowners but it must be approved by board members first.
