NCDOT to repair roads after heavy rains and flooding

ORIENTAL, N.C. (WNCT) – Craven and Pamlico Counties homes aren’t the only places affected by the rain, roads are also damaged. The State Department of Transportation is planning to start making repairs soon.

The worst of the damage is past barriers blocking off part of Kershaw Road.

Grody Eure a maintenance engineer with DOT says a pipe underneath the roadway washed out leaving what he calls a huge void in the road. Other areas with washout issues include 55 East going to Pamlico County, U.S. 17 before the Neuse River Bridge, and the U.S. 17 bypass between 70 and Jones County line.

A neighbor on Kershaw Road tells 9 On Your Side, people were moving the barricade to drive through the road.

Eure says he’s expecting repairs on Kershaw Road to start Monday and be finished either the same day or Tuesday.
